As life gets busier and we have less time to unwind, fitting daily wellbeing practices into our regimes can feel impossible. So more of us are looking for intensive wellness top ups via treatments and retreats. But can a week on a yoga retreat really provide a long-lasting positive impact? Is it as good for us as a daily practice? In short, do wellness retreats really work?
What Is A Wellness Retreat?
Let’s go back to basics. A wellness retreat is a specialised getaway or holiday designed to promote health and wellbeing. These retreats cater to specific needs and preferences of travellers, offering activities like yoga, meditation, spa treatments, and healthy meals. The focus, as well as focusing on travel and leisure, is to rejuvenate both the body and mind, to improve overall wellness.
Do They Work?
Of course, we’re a little biassed, but we really believe that yoga and meditation retreats can be truly transformational. We started Glow to provide healing retreats where people can disconnect with the world and reconnect with themselves.
Our retreats, and wellness retreats in general, are effective in promoting well-being by offering activities like yoga, meditation, and fitness programs that enhance focus and mental clarity. By dedicating a block of time specifically to these activities, you are putting your health and wellbeing first and prioritising your health and happiness.
Group retreats also offer the opportunity to connect with likeminded and interesting individuals that can support you on your quest for self-improvement, introspection and expansion.
Is There Any Evidence?
Yes! You don’t have to take our word for it. There is evidence supporting the health benefits of wellness retreats. Studies suggest that retreat experiences can lead to positive changes in metabolic and neurological pathways, promoting overall health. Additionally, wellness retreats offer an environment for introspection, reflection, and the cultivation of inner peace, which contributes positively to overall well-being and rejuvenation.
What Is The Ideal Length of a Wellness Retreat?
Taking any length of time to invest in your wellbeing is beneficial, whether it’s a five-minute meditation or a month-long yoga residency. Our yoga and meditation retreats at Glow are usually around five or six days, which we think is the ideal length to enjoy the benefits a wellness-focused escape. It typically takes a day or two to switch off and adjust from the hustle and bustle of life, and settle into life at a slower, restorative pace.
Slowing down is enormously beneficial, to gain the maximum benefit from daily yoga and meditation practices and a healthy, balanced diet. At the end of the retreat you will be ready to immerse yourself back into your normal life, feeling rested and restored and with a long-lasting sense of wellbeing that will extend way beyond your stay.
