Are you getting ready to embark on a transformative journey at Glow Retreat Ibiza? We can’t wait to welcome you! So how can you prepare for your retreat both physically and mentally to help you make the most of your experience and ensure you return home feeling rejuvenated, inspired and glowing from the inside out?
Before we start, if you don’t have time for pre-retreat prep, don’t worry! It’s our job to ensure you get the most out of your retreat, so please do come as you are. But if you are excited to start your wellness retreat experience a little early, and keen to get the most possible out of your stay, there are some ways to start the wind down before your departure. Here are some tips to help you get ready for your Glow Retreat in Ibiza or Lefkada.
How Do I Prepare For A Wellness Retreat?
Prepare Physically
Detox Your Body
In the weeks leading up to your retreat, you might want to focus on starting to cleanse your body of toxins and impurities. While you’re on the Glow Retreat, you’ll be served a delicious, healthy diet of fresh, seasonal food. So, getting ready for this by adapting your diet slightly can help you ready yourself for the experience. Add clean, whole foods into your diet, with plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats. Drink plenty of water and herbal teas and try to limit or avoid processed foods, sugar, alcohol, caffeine and other stimulants. This will help your body be in a more optimal state to absorb all the nourishing foods and healing modalities you'll experience at the retreat.
Get Moving
Engage in regular exercise to boost your mood, energy levels and overall health. Cardio, strength training and flexibility work are all wonderful ways to improve your overall health and wellbeing. Activities like yoga, Pilates, walking, swimming and cycling are all great options, too. Moving your body regularly will help you feel strong, centred and ready to fully participate in the retreat activities. Remember, we cater for all levels in our yoga classes, so if you’ve never done a class, you’ll still fit in on our Glow Retreat.
Prioritise Sleep
Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep per night in the weeks leading up to your retreat. Establish a calming bedtime routine and create a sleep-conducive environment. Avoid screens, caffeine and heavy meals close to bedtime. Getting sufficient, restful sleep will help you feel rested, focused and resilient. Again, if you don’t catch enough sleep in the lead-up, you’ll have plenty of time during your Glow Retreat experience to rest and recharge.
Prepare Mentally
Set an Intention
Even if it’s just on the plane or train journey toward your Glow Retreat experience, setting an intention for your retreat can help you to get the most out of it. Reflect on what you hope to gain from your retreat experience. Do you want to reduce stress, boost your energy, deepen your spiritual practice, or something else? Set a clear intention and keep it in mind as you prepare for and participate in the retreat. Your intention will help guide your experience and keep you focused on your goals. We can help you with this once you arrive, so don’t worry if you aren’t sure!
Let Go of Expectations
Try to release any rigid expectations about how your retreat "should" go. Be open to the process and allow yourself to be present with whatever arises, even if it's challenging. Trust that the retreat will unfold exactly as it's meant to. Letting go of expectations will help you stay flexible and receptive.
Unplug
In the days leading up to your retreat, gradually reduce your screen time and exposure to social media, news and other external stimuli. Spend time in nature, read inspiring books, journal, and engage in other grounding activities. Unplugging will help you shift your focus inward and create space for deep rest and reflection.
Communicate with Loved Ones
Let your family, friends and colleagues know that you'll be away at a retreat and may have limited availability while you’re away. Reassure them that you're fine and will be in touch when you return. Tie up any loose ends at work and home so you can fully immerse yourself in the retreat experience without distractions or worries. We want our guests to spend their time at our Glow Retreats feeling happy and healthy, and if that means a bit of screen time, fine. But if you have to skip yoga for meetings, or spend half the week organising family from afar, you might not get as much out of the week as we’d like you to. You deserve a break!
