The importance of feeling connected

What do we mean when we talk about a reconnection to our sense of self?

On our Glow retreats, we talk a lot about reconnection - and it has definitely been a dominant theme in our 2024 retreats.

So many of our guests this year so far have arrived on retreat with a feeling of being of out of alignment or with a lack of recognition and understanding of their thoughts and emotions; perhaps confused, a little lost and feeling like they are on a ‘hamster wheel’ that doesn’t give them the space or opportunity to process what is going on in their lives.

Modern life forces us to be busy, busy, busy and rarely affords us the time to pause, take stock and truly address how we are feeling in our hearts, our souls and our bodies.

As a result, we suppress or ‘gloss over’ our emotions - we plan to revisit & explore them another day, but that day never happens. We notice elevated levels of stiffness in our body but we plan to exercise more, thinking that will do the trick - when we eventually have time. We may be having sleep issues or an indefinable feeling of generalised anxiety, but we can’t quite put our finger on what is causing it.

These are all red flags and signposts that are clearly indicating that we are disconnected from our true sense of self and often mean that while we may be existing and functioning - in the most basic expression of the terms - we are not really being & living who we truly are or want to be. We are not fully showing up in the truest expression of who we are.

While we all can experience periods of stress & non fulfilment, or disconnection & confusion about where we are going in life, if we carry on in this state for too long, our body will start to signal to us that it is time to simply stop and reassess.

While we can take a purposeful and valuable journey towards a calmer state of mind by cognitive-healing practices such as meditation, mindfulness & talking therapies, it’s important to remember that we live in our physical body and the symptoms of emotional dysregulation will always show up in our body.

The body is our gifted vehicle which can’t be healed by the mind alone. Healing our emotional state is a holistic task which requires us to inhabit a full-body awareness and to reconnect and reunite the mind, body & spirit so it becomes whole.

On a Glow retreat we will guide you to re-establish and nurture this reconnection to your mind, via the practises of breathwork, guided meditation, creative visualisation & individual coaching along with reconnecting to your body in the yoga asana practice by really feeling into what is happening physically - and to making that connection between what is happening in your mind and how it is showing up in your physiological self.

Along with the delicious and nutritious food that is abundantly served, the time to truly rest and be looked after by our retreat ‘angels’ you will also feel a sense of community and connection with your fellow retreaters; it’s a magical kind of alchemy that happens on every Glow retreat!

And the end result is that you leave our retreats feeling fully and symbiotically connected; possibly in a way you have never felt before; ready to live life with clarity, in tune with your values, your goals and your aspirations. You will feel ready to move forward in your life with confidence & vitality, feeling clear & tuned in to what it is that will help you live your most vibrant life.

To yourself, to others, to your body, mind & spirit, connection is everything.
